Fix wear and tear, and other cosmetic flaws with strong, stain-resistant, and natural-looking porcelain veneers

We provide lifelong dental care by exceeding expectations. As such, our team understands that the desire to have an attractive, healthy smile doesn’t wane with time. However, as you get older, you may notice that your teeth look chipped and broken. Spaces between teeth may look bigger than they used to. Formerly white teeth may look stained or yellow.

Fortunately, as your long-term partners in this oral health journey, Los Alamitos Dental Care can fix these and other cosmetic imperfections.

Dental veneers in Los Alamitos, California

Veneers are a cosmetic dental procedure. They are coverings made from dental materials. Porcelain is a popular material for veneers. It looks like natural tooth enamel due to its light-reflecting properties and translucency. Furthermore, porcelain resists stains well and is considered to be a strong and durable material. So, porcelain veneers can be an excellent investment in the lifelong healthy function and appearance of your mouth and smile.

There are some considerations for individuals who are considering porcelain veneers to disguise gaps, chips, small cracks, stubborn stains, wear and tear, and other irregularities. Notably, veneers:

  • Should be treated with good oral care. While porcelain is strong, it is not indestructible. We encourage you to maintain consistent and thorough care at home and visits to our office for professional cleanings and exams.
  • Require the removal of a small amount of natural tooth enamel. So, this approach to covering up cosmetic flaws is not reversible. It is also not the most conservative option available to us. We can discuss alternatives such as dental bonding. Composite bonding leaves healthy enamel intact. This process is faster and more affordable than porcelain veneers; however, dental composite can stain and is not as strong or as natural in appearance as porcelain.
  • Can last for years as long as you refrain from behaviors that can damage the porcelain. In addition to protecting your treated teeth from oral health problems like enamel erosion and tooth decay, we will discuss any habits that can make your veneers vulnerable to future damage. For instance, we ask that you refrain from chewing fingernails or hard objects. Patients who grind their teeth may be good candidates for oral appliance therapy. Custom night guards slip over the teeth. They provide a cushion or buffer from the forces placed on the teeth and dental work when patients habitually grind their teeth.

Veneers are thin handcrafted porcelain shields worn on the front of the tooth which improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, stained or worn. Veneers are thin as contact lenses, and are an aesthetically pleasing option of closing gaps, lengthening teeth, and providing symmetry to make your smile more natural. Veneers are intended to last for many years without changing color. They are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in dentistry. Ask your dentist if veneers may be right for you.
